How to Make Homemade Taco Seasoning

Simply combine all the spices in a small jar, mix or shake together until all combined, and cover tightly with a lid.  That’s it!  This seasoning will last up to 6 months to a year in your pantry so go ahead and make a ton to have on hand.  Just make sure you store this in a cool dry place.  Feel free to adjust any of the spices to make this to your liking.  Some adjustments could be smoked paprika in place of regular paprika, you could add 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes or a little cayenne for some spice, ancho chili powder would taste great in place of regular chili powder, and you could even add a little sugar (or brown sugar) for some sweetness mixed in with the spice.

This recipe makes about a 1/3 cup of taco seasoning so depending on how much you need (or want to keep on hand) you may want to double or triple this recipe.  You could even cut it in half if you just need a little for one recipe, it’s completely up to you!

How Much is One Packet of Store-Bought Seasoning?

If you are used to using a whole packet of store-bought taco seasoning in your recipes, please note that 2 tablespoons of this homemade seasoning is equivalent to one whole packet.  It’s also a good rule of thumb to use about 2 tablespoons of seasoning for every pound of ground meat you’re cooking with.
