This delicious Ginger Basil Salmon in Foil is the perfect weeknight dinner that’s healthy, easy to prepare, and ready in just 20 minutes!
Is there anything better than a quick healthy weeknight meal that tastes delicious and looks like you slaved away in the kitchen?? That’s how I feel about this Ginger Basil Salmon baked in foil! You guys this salmon is SO flavorful and really couldn’t be any easier to throw together. It’s perfect for those busy weeknights when you want something healthy that is quick to make with little preparation and effort.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- salmon fillet – you’ll need a whole fillet of fresh, skin-on salmon and I suggest looking for wild-caught salmon with firm, pink flesh and nice marbling throughout. You can also use a frozen fillet, just make sure the salmon is thawed before cooking.
- soy sauce – I always use low-sodium soy sauce as I find that regular soy sauce can make dishes too salty. You could also swap the soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos to make this gluten-free.
- lemon juice – I just love the bright, fresh flavor fresh lemon juice brings to this dish, just make sure to use fresh squeezed lemon juice and not the stuff from the bottle.
- rice vinegar – adds a touch of acid along with the lemon juice. If you don’t have rice vinegar, feel free to substitute with white vinegar, apple cider vinegar or even a little more lemon juice.
- honey – adds a touch of sweetness to balance out the spice without using any refined sugar. You could also use maple syrup or other natural sweetener.
- sriracha – adds some spice and flavor, but you could also use sambal oelek. If you don’t want this salmon to be spicy at all, simply omit the sriracha! If you like more heat, you can always add more sriracha or a pinch of red pepper flakes.
- garlic + ginger – fresh garlic and fresh ginger are definitely best in this dish.
- fresh basil – adds such great flavor and you could also use fresh cilantro or fresh parsley.
- salt – needed to season the salmon and give everything flavor.
How to Make Ginger Basil Salmon
- Prepare salmon. Line a baking sheet with foil coated in nonstick spray and place salmon in the middle of the foil. Season with salt and set aside.
- Make the sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, lemon juice, honey, sriracha, garlic, ginger and chopped basil.
- Add sauce to salmon. Pour the sauce over the salmon making sure it is evenly coated and wrap tightly with the foil.
- Bake the salmon. Place the salmon in the oven and bake at 375 degrees F for 15 minutes then open up the foil and let it cook under the broiler for an additional 3 to 5 minutes, until flaky and cooked through. This gives the salmon a beautiful color!

Prepping and Storage
Leftovers will last for 2 to 3 days stored in a sealed, airtight container in the fridge. You can easily reheat this salmon in the oven wrapped in foil at 325 degrees F for about 5 minutes or simply warm it up in the microwave (no foil in the microwave!) I also love adding this leftover salmon to a salad for a protein-packed lunch!

Ginger Basil Salmon in Foil
Ingredients
- 2 lb fresh salmon fillet
- 1/2 tsp salt, or more to taste
For the marinade:
- 3 Tbsp rice vinegar
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 1 Tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tsp sriracha
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 Tbsp fresh basil, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Line a baking sheet with foil and place salmon in the middle of the foil. Season with salt and set aside.
- In a small bowl, whisk together rice vinegar, lemon juice, honey, soy sauce, ginger, sriracha, garlic and basil. Pour marinade over salmon until it is evenly coated and wrap tightly with the foil.
- Bake salmon for 15 to 20 minutes then open up the foil and let it cook under the broiler for an additional 5 minutes. Serve immediately and enjoy!
