So as most of you know I have a serious obsession with Anthropologie dishes/linens/um everything that I use for almost all of my food photos. Hey I’m not the only one, most food, fashion, lifestyle bloggers do as well! (Well let’s be honest, who DOESN’T loves Anthro??) So I thought it’d be fun to share what my prop shelf in my home office looks like for those of you wondering where I store all these random dishes that don’t match and would take up too much room in my kitchen. For me I still have so much more that I want to add to this, but it sure has come a long way over the past 5 years! Gah I can’t believe it’s been that long since I started food blogging…
Shopping for food props and linens has definitely become a year round event as I’m always grabbing something here or there whenever I’m out and see something I think will look great in photos. There a tons of places to find great props that are inexpensive and some of the best finds are used and/or antique! Having all your dishes and props in one place sure makes it easy when styling your food as sometimes I change out different plates, bowls or napkins depending on the look I’m trying to achieve. This particular shelving unit I found at Ikea then just added some cute baskets for extra storage. Throw on some cookbooks, magazines and fun straws and you’re all set to go!
Here are some of my FAVORITE places to shop for props, dishes and assorted linens:
- Anthropologie (obviously)
- Crate and Barrel
- Sur La Table
- Etsy (you can find tons of vintage dishes here for super cheap)
- Pier 1
- Home Goods
So there you go! There really are so many other places to look for food props, but these just happen to be my go-to’s. Shopping all at once for dishes can get pretty expensive which is why I like to do it little by little over the years. It’s fun watching my collection grow and gives me inspiration for styling fun photos!
Also don’t forget tomorrow is the LAST day to enter for a chance to win a $100 Anthropologie Gift Card! Each reader gets at least 5 entries each and I’ll be announcing the winner this Thursday. I mean it’s the perfect way to start your very own prop shelf or just get something fun for your kitchen! Anthro also has fabulous clothes, shoes, home decor – seriously you name it, they have it.
And you can bet it’s going to be cute.
